Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi is one of the top goalkeepers in Japan with international experience.

He first appeared as goalkeeper on the national soccer team in 1998 and played for the team during the 2002 World Cup. To gather international experience in goalkeeping, Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi moved to Portsmouth in England and to Denmark where he played for Team Nordsjælland. He was the first Japanese goalkeeper to move abroad.
