Linda D'Obry Willemoes Butler is related to the famous Danish naval hero Peter Willemoes. She was born in Denmark but grew up in Finland, where her parents ran a Danish daughter company of Paul Bergsoe and sons. In Finland she finished her education and worked at the Royal Danish Embassy. Linda D'Obry Willmoes Butler is married to an American diplomat and has worked in several humanitarian organisations all over the world. Lately she has lived in Serbia, Bosnia and Macedonia, and she serves as the honorary president of "Aid to Artisans", a global NGO that supports artisans, particularly women in rural communities, to develop marketable and functional crafts for domestic and export sales. While in Macedonia she also actively supported the Skopje Children's Hospital and other charitable causes, and actively worked to encourage gender equality by honouring a cross-section of outstanding women.
