Thanh Lam was born in 1969, in a family full of traditional art and music. From the age of three years old she was taught to sing and listen to the piano. At the age of seven she was able to play traditional Vietnamese instruments and started rehearsing Vietnamese folk music under the guidance of her mother. This is how she began her career, which has led her to become one of the most talented and successful singers in Vietnam.
By 1978 she started studying traditional folk music (ty ba instrument) at the National Conservatory in Hanoi. With the guidance from her parents she changed her subject to vocal modern music in 1985. This became a turning point in her artistic career. During her career she has taken part in many cultural activities both nationally and world wide. With her unique and expressive singing Thanh Lam has become one of the most beloved song divas and an icon of Vietnamese music.
