Christine Nöstlinger was born in 1936. After working as a journalist, she had her breakthrough as an author in 1970. Now she is one of the most acclaimed authors of books for children and the young. With a comprehensive authorship and her special tone of voice, she has created her own innovative style which has been the cause of development within the area of children's literature. Her books are written for children of all ages and includes imaginative stories, realistic descriptions of everyday life and books with an autobiographical background. All of them are humourous, unsentimental and loving. Christine Nöstlinger has written for TV and radio productions as well.

Christine Nöstlinger has received numerous prizes and awards such as the Friedrich Boedecker Preis (1972), The German Youth Litterature Prize (1973) The Hans Christian Andersen Medal from the IBBY (1984), the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award(2003) and more than 30 other distinctions.
