FAQ

In 1874 Hans Christian Andersen made his last picture picture book: "Picture Book from Hans Christian Andersen to Little Charlotte".

The last part of his life the poet was very attached to the Melchior family and often visited Dorothea and Moritz G. Melchior at their country house "Rolighed".

Little Charlotte (born in 1871) was the daughter of Moritz' brother, Israel Berendt, who for one thing was a productive amateur photograph and who made a lot of photographical portraits of Hans Christian Andersen.

The picture below of Charlotte Melchior and Hans Christian Andersen is a photographical montage constructed in 1875. (The photograph of Hans Christian Andersen dates from 1868 when Charlotte was not yet born).

Today the picture book is at The Hans Christian Andersen Museum/Odense City Museums and you can have a closer look at it here.
