HCA NEWS HCA-abc Foundation and UNICEF collaboration

At a press launch on Statens Museum for Kunst the HCA-abc Foundation and UNICEF presented their collaboration regarding a school project in Bangladesh. At the event the Danish Minister of Development Cooperation Ulla Tørnæs appointed seven new Hans Christian Andersen Ambassadors.

The HCA-abc Foundation has been established in connection with the worldwide celebration of the birth of Hans Christian Andersen with the aim of addressing illiteracy worldwide, primarily in developing countries. As a prelude to the grand fairytale weekend 1 - 3 April, the HCA-abc Foundation presented their first joint collaboration with the UN children's organisation UNICEF. The HCA-abc foundation will provide funding for a UNICEF school project in Bangladesh which is to secure schooling for poor and exposed children's workers and give them hope of a better future. In 2004, the school project received a royal visit from HRH Princess Alexandria of Denmark who is patron of UNICEF Denmark. At the press launch UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador Sir Roger Moore spoke on behalf of the children of the world.

UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador Harry Belafonte was also present at the press launch to initiate the HCA-abc Foundation people's choice competition on their official website www.andersenabc.dk. To vote for your favourite Andersen fairytale, you must donate 5 Euros to the HCA-abc Foundation towards their humanitarian work. Prizes will be drawn among voters including travels and Andersen bicentenary merchandise and products.
 
The Danish Minister of Development Cooperation, Ulla Tørnæs was also present at the press event. She appointed seven Hans Christian Andersen Ambassadors: Author Ib Michael, author Suzanne Brøgger, Director of the Federation of Danish Industries Hans Skov Christensen, Count Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille, cultural patron Linda Butler representing Bosnia-Herzegovina, music producer Bruce Sweden representing Sweden and artist and cartoonist Kunuk Platoú representing Greenland will also be appointed as Hans Christian Andersen Ambassadors.

To end the event, the newly appointed Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador Ib Michael performed a reading of Andersen's fairytale "The Snow Queen".
