HCA NEWS Denmark Week in Malta

During the week from 18 - 25 February 2005 the best from Danish culture and commerce comes to Malta. This includes Danish movies and design, an exhibition on the world-renowned Danish storyteller Hans Christian Andersen and an appointment of a Maltese H.C. Andersen Ambassador.

The Denmark Week takes place in St. James Cavalier and is opened with a ceremony Friday 18 February, 5 p.m. by the Danish Ambassador in Italy and Malta, Mr. Poul Skytte Christoffersen. During the inauguration ceremony, Professor Oliver Friggieri, University of Malta, will be appointed Maltese Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador, as part of the worldwide celebration of the writer's bicentenary.

This special week will feature some of the best contemporary Danish screenplay movies, which have received international acclamation and awards. The movies will be shown in St. James Cavalier Cinema each evening at 7 and 9 p.m. An exhibition on Hans Christian Andersen's Bicentenary, as well as short-films on Danish agriculture, and on Danish wind energy experiences, will be shown throughout the week in St James Cavalier.

A Children's Corner with reading of Hans Christian Andersen fairy tales in Maltese and a Lego Play Ground will run from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. throughout the week. Furthermore a range of modern designer furniture from BoConcept will be exhibited in St James Cavalier.

A special Denmark Week lottery will be conducted. The main prize is a round trip for two persons from Valletta to Copenhagen with Maersk Air, including two nights accommodation in four-star Copenhagen Admiral Hotel. The winners will also be invited to visit the Hans Christian Andersen Museum in Odense and a free day in the Legoland Park in Billund. Lottery forms are available in St James Cavalier. Participation is free. The draw will take place in public, Friday 25 February at 3 p.m. in St. James Cavalier.
