HCA NEWS The Latvian Hans Christian Andersen activities

The Danish-Latvian Hans Christian Andersen activities scheduled in Latvia are taking shape. They were launched last Saturday with a major event in the capital Riga. Here the Daile Theatre staged a musical based on Andersen?s fairytale Thumbelina, which in part was performed by children. The invited audience of 130 included representatives of the Danish and Latvian cultural and business environment.

The Latvian Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador, author Nora Ikstena, read a greeting on stage on behalf of the Latvian president Vaira Vike-Freiberga, who unfortunately was unable to attend the event.

Speeches were also held by the Latvian Minister of Culture, Helena Demakova, the Danish Ambassador to Latvia, Arnold Skibsted, and the Director of the Danish Culture Institute in Latvia, Mogens Lange.
 
Apart from the performance itself, a press conference was held at the Danish Culture Institute. In all, 23 representatives from the press were present, and the conference was widely exposed in the Latvian media.
