When the world celebrates the bicentenary of the birth of Hans Christian Andersen in 2005, Chile will feature prominently.

A number of high-profiled Chilean projects will be launched during the bicentenary which is why the Chilean embassy in Denmark in collaboration with the Hans Christian Andersen 2005 Foundation will host the HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN AND CHILE event to take place in Copenhagen on Monday 26 January 200.

HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSEN AND CHILE will take place in connection with the official visit to Denmark of President Ricardo Lagos of Chile on 25 - 27 January. The President will take part in the event, presided over by HRH Princess Alexandra, and will on behalf of his wife, Mrs Luisa Durán de Lagos, accept her appointment as Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador.

Mrs Luisa Durán de Lagos will be appointed on account of the prominent role that Chile enjoys in relation to the 2005 bicentenary. Her role is to contribute to the wider appreciation and awareness of Hans Christian Andersen in Chile.

Additionally, Secretary General Lars Seeberg of the Hans Christian Andersen 2005 Foundation will present the first major Chilean Hans Christian Andersen projects to be staged in collaboration between the Chilean Ministry of Culture and the Hans Christian Andersen 2005 Foundation.
