Hope for a golf tournament in Odense in 2005 Odense is trying to get a round of the Europa Tour golf tournament to take place in the city in connection with HCA2005. By ms - H.C. Andersen 2005 - 12 November 2003 The Odense Eventyr Golf Club would like to provide the setting for a round of the international Europa Tour golf tournament and is, therefore, pulling out all the stops to make it happen in 2005, when the city celebrates Hans Christian Andersen's 200th birthday and is, thus, already visible on the international scene. According to the regional newspaper Fyens Stiftstidende, none of the several meetings held so far with potential sponsors have led to concrete results. "We are, so to speak, having a look at the pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. We have not yet decided whether we will try to put the pieces together at a later time," says Dan Hammer, who is the commercial director for the soccer stadium Parken in Copenhagen and one of the most important promoters behind the initiative from Odense. Also at Parken is Flemming Østergaard (Don Ø), who is chairman of the board and an enthusiastic golfer, and the chairman of the Odense Eventyr Golf Club, Harry Pape Henriksen, has approached Flemming Østergaard and Parken with a view towards a collaboration in connection with the European Tour. "We need a promoter who can obtain sponsorship money. Here, we see Parken as a possibility," says Harry Pape Henriksen.  Back |
