Danish sculptor Johan Kallmayer has a commission from the Bikuben Foundation for DKK 1 million to make a 50-ton sculpture to be placed at the newly renovated Odense city center in time for the celebration of Hans Christian Andersen in 2005, writes the newspaper Viborg Stifts Folkeblad.

The 53-year old Kallmayer achieved notoriety in Denmark, when a customer found an erotic sculpture too daring and paid Kallmayer to be rid of the work of art, which depicted sexual intercourse.  The sculpture was later bought by the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, which produces, among other things, the potency pill Viagra.

However, neither the Bikuben Foundation nor the Municipality of Odense finds Kallmayer's artistic expression too controversial to ask him to provide a major ingredient in the beautification of central Odense. A work of art that Kallmayer says will have a little taste of the city's famous native son, Hans Christian Andersen. But more he would not say.
