By Fie Sandfeld - H.C. Andersen 2005 - 23 October 2002

I Ran About With Wooden Shoes takes its starting point in Hans Christian Andersen's childhood experiences in Odense.

Its content is based on letters, diary entries and the results of on-going research into Hans Christian Andersen.  The book sheds light on Hans Christian Andersen's connections to people, his surroundings and events that particularly affected his childhood and later work.

The reader is brought into the universe of Hans Christian Andersen's childhood through pictures, illustrations, texts and maps.  If you get the urge to walk in young Andersen's footsteps, you can also find suggestions for a walking tour of Odense to places the writer himself trod in the wooden shoes of his childhood.

The book was first published in 1978 and has been sold out for some time.  This newly edited version will be published as part of a new series, Fynske Fortællinger (Tales of Funen).
