Comprehensive edition of online fairy tales Jean Hersholt's The Complete Andersen has been published online By Lars Bo Jensen - University of Southern Denmark - 02 April 2004 The Danish Hollywood-skuespiller Jean Hersholt translated Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales and stories into English and had them published in The Complete Andersen, 6 volumes, New York 1949. Hersholt's selection of tales is original and very comprehensive, and this is the most comprehensive edition of Andersen's fairy tales in English (American) on the internet. Hersholt wanted to create a translation more true to what his favourite author had written than most of the older english translations are. The quality is high, and Hersholt's translation is still by several people rated as the standard Andersen-translation for the English languaged world, being one of the best.  Read more  Back |
