Bille August, Director:

Bille August is one of the few Danish film directors to have really made a name for himself internationally. He was born in 1948 and educated, respectively, at the Photography and Documentary Film School in Stockholm and the National Film School of Denmark in Copenhagen.

He began as a cameraman and made 14 television and feature films - particularly in Sweden - before he moved into the role of director with the 1979 film "Honeymoon".

Since then, he has been the leading figure in a number of international films, and he has been nominated for and won the worlds' most prestigious film awards - including the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival, which he has received several times, the Golden Globe for best foreign language film of the year in 1989 and the Oscar for best foreign language film that same year.

In Denmark, Bille August has been honored with numerous Bodil and Robert prizes.
