The Penguin Publishing House now publishes their critically acclaimed translation of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytales on the North American market. In content, the book is identical to the selected fairytales published earlier this year in Britain.

The 30 fairytales have been selected by Jackie Wullschlager, author of the critically acclaimed Andersen biography. Naturally, the most famous classics will be included, but lesser-known fairytales have also been included such as "The Old House" and "The Story of a Mother", "The Ice Maiden", "The Wind Tells About Valdemar Daae and His Daughters", and "Auntie Toothache". The acclaimed translation is the work of Tiina Nunnally, who in the preface writes: "It was one of the most challenging projects I have ever undertaken". The book features a short Andersen biography by Wullschlager and is illustrated with Andersen's own paper cuts.

Retail price is 27.95 US dollars for the currently published hardcover versions. A paperback version will later be included in the Penguin's classics series. It is the first time that Andersen has been included in this series.
