HERE & NOW HCA Premiere in Quebec

Robert Lepage's solo performance Le projet Andersen premiered at Le Théâtre du Trident in Quebec, Canada, on 22 February. Robert Lepage has most recently directed the screen adaptation of the play The Far Side of the Moon, which has received several international awards.

By awk - H.C. Andersen 2005 - 21 February 2005

Lepage's performance is based on Andersen's fairytales The Shadow and The Dryad and draws on episodes of Andersen's visit to Paris. The performance reflects the crossroads between Romanticism and modernism - between the present, past and future. It deals with the dawn of modernism and the technical inventions of the time, which are juxtaposed throughout the performance with Andersen's poetical realm.

What characterises Robert Lepage's work is that his performances centre on an encounter between a historical and a contemporary person. His Andersen performance also features a contemporary character, who visits Paris exactly 100 years after Andersen's visit and who travels back in time. Robert Lepage is to play the solo part. The performance will be staged in Quebec from 22 February to 19 March with extra performances on 22 and 23 March 2005 prior to the world tour.
