The Scandinavian carrier, SAS, celebrates the bicentenary of the birth of Hans Christian Andersen by making the storyteller airborne across Europe. One of their aircrafts, an Airbus 321 carrying 184 passengers, has just been adorned with Andersen's name and silhouette profile.

The Shadow performed for more than 5000 schoolchildren in Oslo

Wednesday to Friday last week, Danish composer John Frandsen's 35-minute choral and orchestral work The Shadow was performed for more than 5000 schoolchildren at six sold-out concerts in Oslo. The concert series came to a conclusion Friday evening with a performance at the Philharmonic Hall.

The Chinese film based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale "Under the Willow Tree" was awarded an honourable fourth place in the People's Choice competition at the NatFilm Festival in Denmark. In all, 82 films were eligible.

The Aarhus Festival presents extensive Andersen programme

At a press conference on 12 April hosted at Musikhuset Aarhus, Secretary General of the Aarhus Festival, Martin Lumbye, presented the international stage performance programme to be featured at Musikhuset Aarhus as part of the Aarhus Festival held between late August and early September this year. According to Martin Lumbye, the programme is the best and most costly ever.



"The Little Mermaid" at the Copenhagen Opera House

Friday 15 April marks the world premiere of a new full-length Hans Christian Andersen ballet: "The Little Mermaid". The celebrated American-born choreographer and artistic director of the Hamburg Ballet, John Neumeier, has created an entirely new and spectacular rendition of the fairytale.

Queen Rania of Jordan has accepted to become Honorary Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador to Jordan. Her official appointment as Honorary Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador will take place later in 2005 at an official ceremony in Amman, Jordan.
