The star from "Grease" has just performed for the Danish Crown Prince and Princess in Australia - and she will do so again at the grand opening show of the Hans Christian Andersen bicentenary on 2 April.

The Hans Christian Andersen 2005 Foundation and Danish national broadcaster DR proudly announce the appearance of Olivia Newton-John - also known as Sandy in the musical "Grease" - at the grand opening show of the Hans Christian Andersen bicentenary on 2 April 2005.
 
Olivia Newton-John has recently performed at the official visit to Australia of Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, and now she will yet again perform for Danish royalty.

Olivia Newton-John's extensive career as an entertainer has all too seldom brought her to Denmark. It is therefore a great joy that Olivia Newton-John is to sprinkle a little stardust at the grand opening show.

Olivia Newton-John has released numerous albums, and her latest "Indigo" is from 2004. In 1999, she received an Emmy Award as the best songwriter for her album "Back With A Heart". Furthermore, she enjoyed great success with the movie "Grease" from 1978 where she played the lead role alongside John Travolta. She furthermore enjoyed great success with her single "Physical" from 1981, which was her breakthrough as a singer. She additionally represented Britain in 1974 at the Eurovision Song Contest and sang at the Opening Ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Apart from her singing career, she is actively committed to charitable causes on issues of the environment, children's welfare, and breast cancer.



The show, entitled "Once Upon A Time", will be televised live to the Danish home audience on DR1 and to the wide world. The 120-minute show relates the life and work of Hans Christian Andersen in music, dance and film. For the occasion, the Danish national soccer stadium, Parken, will be transformed into an enchanting fairytale universe where a number of newly produced short films will relate the story of Andersen's life. Each fairytale will be conveyed in dance and music. Audiences at home and at the stadium will experience Connie Nielsen as hostess, popstar Daniel Bedingfield from New Zealand, Jean Michel Jarre, the world-famous American opera singer Renee Flemming, Safri Duo, the Italian quick-change artist Ennio Marchetto, Sir Roger Moore, Harry Belafonte and Isabel Allende. The cast of 600 performers including a children's choir of 350 boys and girls, 28 ballet children from the Royal Danish Ballet, the Chinese acrobatics troupe, the Shenyang Acrobatic Troupe, and a large ensemble of dancers and singers.

The prominent guest attending the show will include the Danish Royal Family, the Danish Government and the Hans Christian Andersen Ambassadors from around the world.
