On 20 January 2005, the Danish ambassador to Bolivia, Mr. Mogens Pedersen, appointed the First Lady of Bolivia, Mrs. Elvira Salinas de Mesa as Honorary Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador of Bolivia at a reception at the ambassadorial residence attended by 40-50 invited representatives of the arts in Bolivia.

Mr. Mogens Pedersen's speech touched on Andersen's literary work as well as his humble upbringing, his high aspirations and his love of travel and learning.

Special emphasis was given to Andersen's openness towards other cultures and thus a tie was made to Bolivia's multicultural society.

The official Honorary Hans Christian Andersen diploma and official pin was presented to the First Lady as a token of her status as Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador.

Mrs. Elvira Salinas de Mesa's speech centred on the timelessness of Andersen's tales, their rooting in folktales and their universality, which still speaks to us today.

Mrs. Elvira Mesa de Salinas thanked for her appointment as Honorary Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador and committed herself to promoting the wider awareness and appreciation of Hans Christian Andersen and his work in Bolivia.
