HCA NEWS Royals attend US press launch of HCA2005

HRH Crown Prince Frederik and HRH Crown Princess Mary attend the press launch of the 2005 Hans Christian Andersen bicentenary in the USA.

The Hans Christian Andersen bicentennial celebrations in the USA will be presented at a press launch at the New York Public Library on 1 February 2005 at 11 am. The press launch will be presided over by HRH Crown Prince Frederik and HRH Crown Princess Mary of Denmark.

The official press launch of the 2005 Hans Christian Andersen bicentennial celebrations in the USA will take place on 1 February at 11 am at the New York Public Library.

Among the US projects to be presented are new translations of Andersen's fairytales, new theatre and music productions, new classical compositions and a nationwide essay competition for 4th to 7th grade schoolchildren.

The American Hans Christian Andersen Ambassadors have been invited to the press launch where Danish actress Susse Wold will perform a reading of an Andersen fairytale and where the Copenhagen Boy's Choir will furthermore perform.

Later in the afternoon, the crown prince and crown princess will visit a school in New York which in celebration of the Hans Christian Andersen bicentenary has shown special commitment to teaching about Andersen.

In the evening of 1 February, the crown prince and crown princess will be honoured with a gala dinner at the New York Public Library.

The abovementioned events are hosted and organised by the Royal Danish Consulate-General and the New York office of Visit Denmark in association with the Hans Christian Andersen 2005 Foundation. The Royal Danish Embassy in Washington handles press maters.
