HCA NEWS Isabel Allende becomes HCA Ambassador

HRH Crown Prince Frederik appoints the Chilean author Isabel Allende as Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador on 30 September 2004.

A number of Danish and international Hans Christian Andersen Ambassadors are to be appointed in celebration of the bicentenary of the birth of Hans Christian Andersen. The Hans Christian Andersen 2005 Foundation takes great pleasure in appointing the world-famous Chilean author Isabel Allende as Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador.

Along with the First Lady of Chile, Luisa Durán de Lagos, who was appointed Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador in January 2004, Isabel Allende is to promote the wider awareness and appreciation in Chile of Hans Christian Andersen and the humanitarian foundation, the HCA-abc Foundation, which has been established to address illiteracy worldwide in the name of Hans Christian Andersen.

The press conference will take place in the majestic The Long Hall at Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen where HRH Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark will preside over the appointment of Isabel Allende.

Present at the ceremony will be Secretary General of the Hans Christian Andersen 2005 Foundation, Lars Seeberg, and the Chilean Ambassador to Denmark, Jaime Lagos, as well as the Danish Hans Christian Andersen Ambassador, Actress Susse Wold, who will perform a reading of Hans Christian Andersen's fairytale The Teapot.

Furthermore, the Rialto Theatre will perform a musical collage reflecting the relationship between the Chilean author Pablo Neruda and Hans Christian Andersen. The Chilean-born Danish TV news anchor, Paula Larrain, will host the event.
