H.C. Andersen knew Tivoli very well, he was a friend of Tivoli's founder, Georg Carstensen, and was greatly inspired by the Chinese buildings and the gardens when he wrote "Nattergalen" ("The Nightingale") in just two days.

This is why Tivoli finds it natural to participate in the celebration of the writer's bicentenary. The first of Tivoli's two major H.C. Andersen events was presented at a press conference in Tivoli today, 16 August.

A Tivoli Fairy Tale will be a spectacular 'show', best described a an extravaganza of puppets, light, music, pyrotecnics and special effects: every night after dusk 5-metre tall brightly shining puppets will move from the fountain by the Concert Hall, where a stage is built.

The puppets will continue towards the Open Air Stage on a podium on which Tivoli's guest also will see dancers, hear newly composed music, story-telling and fireworks. The spectacular puppets each represent a Hans Cristian Andersen fairy tale and the guests will get in to the HansChristian Andersen universe, when the fairy tales float by while the story-teller tells the stories.

A Tivoli Fairy Tale is created by Gary Paben (USA). Paben is best known for creating spectaculars.  During his career, he has been a college professor, the Executive Vice-President of Entertainment at Madison Square Garden, and for over twenty years, Senior Show Director at Walt Disney World.
