The annual sand sculpture festival in Denmark will, in the nature of things, have Hans Christian Andersen as a theme in 2005.  However, it still has to be decided where the festival will take place and several communities brought out their rakes to bring the festival home - including the Municipality of Pandrup in northern Jutland, which harbors the vacation village of Blokhus.

"Clearly, with its 60-70,000 guests, it is incredibly important for us to be chosen, and we are doing everything we can to get it," says the mayor of Pandrup Municipality, Flemming Jansen, to the newspaper Nordjyske Stiftstidende.

The Sand Sculpture Festival has joined in the celebration of Hans Christian Andersen's 200th birthday and has the support of the Danish Tourist Board, which does not indicate toward fewer visitors than usual.

"Many millions of Danish crowns will be poured into marketing. So, there are prospects for around 500,000 guests," says Erik Frederiksen, who is director for the Sand Sculpture Festival.

He adds that it has already been determined that the festival will take place in five Danish cities at the same time - of which three will be Copenhagen, Odense and S?ndervig, respectively. Remaining is the battle for the two other cities.
