HCA NEWS When it rains on the preacher

The municipality of Tommerup on Funen is taking advantage of the impact the HCA celebration in Odense will have.

The little municipality of Tommerup on the island of Funen, together with its local business council, is planning a series of activities in 2005 to coincide with the international celebration of Hans Christian Andersen, writes the newspaper Fyens Stiftstidende.

Taking a cue from the old saying that, when it rains on the preacher, it drips on the deacon, the municipality of Tommerup is distinguishing itself as one of many Danish municipalities to see positive spillover effects from the tremendous attraction Denmark and Odense will exercise on Hans Christian Andersen fans from all over the world. 

By launching a series of initiatives to supplement activities in Odense, the municipality of Tommerup hopes to generate sufficient visibility to attract tourists, among other things, to the municipality in 2005.

Niels Pedersen, chairman of the local business council, mentions as examples from among the activities on the drawing board, such things as concerts, storytelling and plays. 

Moreover, he expects 500 cyclists to take part the plans for a major European tandem rally in Tommerup in 2005.
