At 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Odense City Museums will open the doors to the first exhibitions at the New Hans Christian Andersen Museum, which is an extension of the existing museum in the writer?s hometown. In connection with the occasion, there will be a number of activities in the garden in front of the main entrance at Bangs Boder 29, in which everyone is welcome to participate.

The new Hans Christian Andersen Museum will take the public back to the years 1805-1875, during which the writer's works were created.

The museum will provide a journey through Hans Christian Andersen's creative development, expressed through his art, books, drawings and cutouts. In addition, the museum will go deeper into the author Hans Christian Andersen, who was an immensely interesting figure - mentally as well as physically.

A vivid journey of discovery
The new Hans Christian Andersen Museum is quite simply a vivid journey of discovery tracing the author's footsteps. You find yourself in a universe of Andersen in which you can leaf through his books on computer or listen to his fairy tales at one of the many listening posts.

In the museum shop, you can also find a comprehensive selection of books in several languages by and about Hans Christian Andersen, and the library invites you into Andersen's extensive writings and the tremendous dissemination his works have enjoyed throughout the world today.

Construction of the museum will continue until the summer of 2004 and, as a result, portions of the museum will be periodically closed. Thereafter, however, the museum may be experienced in its entirety with lots of new exhibitions.
