The international composer Poul Ruders has decided to create a composition inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's poems for the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra in connection with the worldwide celebration Hans Christian Andersen 2005. The composition will have its first performance during a prominent musical festival abroad in the summer of 2005. Danish audiences will have a chance to hear the composition at one of the first concerts in the Radio House Concert Hall in 2005/2006.

At the moment, Poul Ruders is composing his new opera "The Process", which will have its premiere performance in the new opera house of the Royal Danish Opera. Poul Ruders has enjoyed great succes with several of his pieces - among them, his most recent commissioned work, "Listening Earth", for the Berliner Philharmoniker, first performed in November 2002.

Before beginning his Hans Christian Andersen piece, Poul Ruders will create a composition for the New York Philharmonic, which will be completed in spring 2005.
