Marinela Servitje was born in 1954. As a young girl she was a volunteer at a hospital. She studied anthropology at the university but later changed to sociology. She finished her Master's Degree in the USA, and since then she has worked at "Secretaria de Educación Publica" (The Ministry of Education)

Throughout her life she has been very dedicated to working for children, and for a long time she worked on the idea of opening the first museum in Mexico for children. In 1993 she opened Mexico's largest interactive museum, the Children's Museum "Papalote".

For the time being, she holds the following positions:
- Director of the Children?s Museum
- President for the Council Committee of UNICEF
- Director of the Pro-Skov Foundation
- Board member of the Children's hospital "Instituto Nacional de Pediatría"
