Artistic Director and Principal Choreographer of the Hamburg Ballet since 1973. Born in 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. He has studied ballet in Copenhagen and London. Under the direction of John Neumeier, the Hamburg Ballet has become one of the leading German ballet companies. He has received numerous international accolades, most recently in 2003 when he was appointed Knight of the Legion of Honour by the French president Jacques Chirac.
