DEREK JACOBI
Sir Derek Jacobi is one of England's most known and distinguished actors. He has performed in numerous plays and television productions including many leading roles in Shakespeare plays, including the role of Hamlet, which Sir Derek has played at the Old Vic but also at Kronborg Castle (known as Hamlet's Castle) in Elsinore in Denmark as part of the Hamlet-festivals held there. In 1999 Sir Derek read some of Hans Christian Andersen's most famous fairytales in a live recording from the Theatre Museum in the Court Theatre of Christiansborg Castle in Copenhagen.

Sir Derek Jacobi's statement:
"Hans Christian Andersen and his wonderful stories have been part of my life from early childhood. His endless fascination lies in the universal appeal of his storytelling, simple yet deep, magical yet truthful. I have a warm and abiding affection for Denmark and it's traditions which makes me doubly honoured to be serving as a Hans Christian Andersen 2005 Ambassador."
