This Belgian writer was born the 9th of June 1964 in Brugge, Belgium. He read a lot as a child and was very inspired by the children-books and books for youngsters made by the Swedish writer Astrid Lindgren. When he finished the Arts Academy in Ghent he went on to study Dutch, German and history in Brussels.

He debuted as a writer in 1983 with the autobiographical book "Off-Key Duet" which was named Book of the Year in 1984 by the Belgian Children's and Young Adult Jury.

Since 1995 he has build an outstanding career as a professional writer of books, plays, articles and screenplays. Among other books he has written "Blote handen" ("Med bare hendene" / "Bare Hands") and "Het is de liefde die we niet begrijpen" ("It's Love we don't understand").

His work has won several prizes and has been translated into 15 languages. The language has been described as poetic and full of atmosphere.

Furthermore Bart Moeyaert has been nominated by the IBBY for the international Hans Christian Andersen Award three times and ended up as a finalist in 2002.
