Hans Christian Andersen lies buried at the Copenhagen cemetery, Assistens Kirkegård. The Hans Christian Andersen 2005 Foundation has sponsored a number of heritage projects including the publishing of a number of booklets in Danish and English on the following subjects:

1. The history of Hans Christian Andersen's grave.
2. The cemetery as a motif in the works of Hans Christian Andersen.
3. Death as motif.
4. Acquaintances of Hans Christian Andersen buried at the cemetery
